Slater Mill along with Amica Insurance presents the exhibit Imagine That! curated by the Weavers' Guild of Rhode Island.
Unusual fibers, fascinating techniques, and exceptional ideas are the basis for the “Imagine That!” show of handwoven pieces. Included in the exhibit are both simple and complex weave structures with the common element of unusual creativity. “Imagine That!” is an exhibit that goes far beyond the bounds of traditional weaving, encouraging us to think in new and different ways and to ask, “How did they think of that?”
This show began as the Special Exhibit for the New England Weavers’ Seminar held at Smith College over four days in July, 2009. The exhibit features invited fiber artists: Bhakti Ziek, Marjorie Durko Puryear, Sarah Zachs, Barbara Herbster, Laurie Carlson, and Suzi Ballenger. The exhibit also includes work of students from the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Each artist has challenged traditional boundaries and used unusual materials and techniques to create innovative work of uncommon expression. Viewers’ response to the exhibit was so enthusiastic it is now being shared with the people of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts where the majority of the artists live and/or work.
We invite you to come and be absorbed by what hand weaving can be.
Opening reception: Thursday, January 14th . 5:30-7PM
